Jumping Rope Workout

Believe it or not a jumping rope workout can be beneficial for improving your vertical jumping ability. A jump rope workout should not be the entire focus of your workout for jumping higher but it can definitely play an important part in helping to fine tune your fast twitch muscle fibers.

Jump Rope Workout Tips for Increasing Your Vertical

Again, a jumping rope workout routine is only a PART of the equation for learning how to jump higher but here are a few things that you will want to keep in mind:

1. Explosive Jumps - Your goal when jumping rope to increase your vertical is NOT to fatigue your muscles or cause you to become winded. Your goal is to train your leg muscles to fire explosively. You want to teach your nervous system to recruit as many fast twitch muscle fibers as possible every time you jump.

2. Varied Height - When you jump rope be sure to vary the height that you are jumping. For example, do 10 jumps as quickly as possible using mainly your calf muscles and then do 10 jumps as high as possible while using a little bit more of a bend in the hips.

3. 1 Leg/2Legs - Some people are naturally better at jumping off of one leg while others are naturally better at jumping off of two feet. Do your best to give equal time to training both ways and maybe even devote a little more time to your weakest area.
